Giants Predicted to Land Biggest NFL Draft Steal You Can Imagine cover image

The New York Giants are being predicted to land a massive steal in the NFL Draft.

The New York Giants are currently in the process of trying to hire John Harbaugh as their new head coach, and it looks like that will ultimately come to fruition.

But after the Giants get that settled, they will have to turn their attention to free agency and the NFL Draft, with the latter likely being the more important avenue given their lack of cap room.

New York owns the fifth overall pick this April, but the Giants also have to hit on the rest of their selections to address their roster needs, as well.

Ryan Guthrie of Pro Football Network recently compiled a seven-round mock draft for New York and has Big Blue landing Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate at No. 5. That would not come as much of a surprise.

However, Guthrie has the Giants circling back around to take another receiver later in the draft, predicting them to nab Notre Dame star Malachi Fields in Round 6.

"Malachi Fields is a classic height-weight-speed prospect whose potential remains largely untapped," Guthrie wrote. "Stylistically similar to Darius Slayton, Fields gives the Giants a chance to reset the clock at the position with a younger, higher-upside option."

Let me just say this: if Fields drops to the sixth round and New York is able to snatch him up, it would represent one of the biggest steals of the draft.

It seems rather unlikely that the 6-foot-4 weapon would fall that far, but in a deep wide receiver class, anything is possible.

Fields hauled in 36 receptions for 630 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 17.5 yards per catch this past season, showing tremendous athletic ability with some highlight-reel grabs.

The Charlottesville, Va. native actually spent the first four years of his collegiate career at Virginia, where he posted back-to-back 800-yard campaigns in 2023 and 2024. So he has a productive track record.

Landing two big-bodied, freakish receivers in Tate and Fields would be a massive boon for the Giants this spring.

Of course, whether or not New York should actually take a pass-catcher in the first round given all of its other needs up and down the roster is debatable.
