New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart just landed some bad news after a Giants coaching hire.

The New York Giants decided to hire Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator, a rather contentious decision given his shaky history with quarterbacks.

Obviously, the development of Jaxson Dart next season will be critical to the Giants' success in 2026 and beyond, and some are wondering if Nagy really is the right man for the job.

Former NFL defensive end and current ESPN analyst Marcus Spears definitely is not a fan of the move by John Harbaugh, noting Nagy's "awful" history of developing young quarterbacks like Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields.

Now, to be fair, it's entirely possible that neither Trubisky nor Fields were ever going to be any good. Let's be honest: they have both looked subpar with or without Nagy, so perhaps they aren't the best two examples to cite.

Nagy spent the last four years as an assistant under Andy Reid in Kansas City, marking his second stint with the Chiefs. He initially answered to Reid between 2013 and 2017 before taking the Chicago Bears' head-coaching job.

Hopefully, Nagy is able to bring a lot of what he learned from Reid to the Big Apple and take this Giants offense to the next level.

Of course, the jury is out on the 47-year-old, who definitely has a chance to prove himself next season.

New York will also need to ensure that Dart has enough weapons at his disposal. With Malik Nabers' health in question and Wan'Dale Robinson hitting free agency, the wide receiver room is currently a sore spot for the Giants.

There is certainly a chance that Nabers — who is recovering from a torn ACL — is back for Week 1 next season, and New York could still re-sign Robinson. In fact, some are expecting Robinson to return to Big Blue.

But in the worst-case scenario where Nabers misses more time and Robinson ends up elsewhere, the Giants will absolutely have to address their receiving corps this offseason, both through free agency and the NFL Draft.

New York will also need to shore up its offensive line, which was surprisingly good in 2025, but appears to be hanging on by a thread.

We'll see if Nagy is able to prove his doubters wrong and cultivate a very motivated Dart next fall.
