Giants RB Cam Skattebo Fires off Strong Message Amid Injury Concerns

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo just provided some major news.

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo took the NFL world by storm last season, establishing himself as one of the most entertaining rookies in the league during the early stages of the campaign.

Skattebo was on pace to have a tremendous debut season, but a gruesome ankle injury he suffered in Week 8 put the kibosh on his first year.

The Arizona State product has been making tremendous progress in his recovery, but up until now, his status for the Giants' 2026 season opener has been in doubt.

However, during Big Blue's annual Town Hall meeting on Monday, Skattebo cleared everything up.

“Obviously, there’s ups and downs in the injury process and coming back and rehabbing, but the mental battle has been the hardest part, making sure that I trust it fully. I’m a little ways out, not too far, but I’ll be ready to go. Week 1, I’ll be ready to go,” Skattebo said.

Now obviously, Skattebo saying this is one thing. The Giants confirming it is something else. But it seems pretty clear that the former fourth-round pick is pretty confident that he will be available when New York battles the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13.

The question is, just how effective will Skattebo be?

On the bright side, the 24-year-old does not rely on quick-twitch athleticism. While he isn't strictly a north-south runner, he definitely relies on power more than speed and agility, so the injury shouldn't affect him as much as it would a finesse back.

That being said, it was still a horrific injury, so we really don't know how Skattebo will look early on next season.

In eight games last year, Skattebo rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns on 4.1 yards per carry while also catching 24 passes for 207 yards and a couple of scores.

His versatility was vital for quarterback Jaxson Dart in 2025, and that is expected to be the case again in 2026.

Should Skattebo be compromised in any way to start the season, Tyrone Tracy — who was very impressive in Skattebo's absence last year — will get the bulk of the work in the backfield. The Giants also have Devin Singletary as a No. 3 halfback.

Hopefully, Skattebo is back to his normal self and can put together a breakout year for the G-Men next fall.
