The New York Giants have received a significant update on potentially trading the top pick in the NFL Draft.

The New York Giants currently own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and this Sunday's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders will go a long way in determining whether or not they end up with the top selection.

If the Giants do end up with the No. 1 pick, the prevailing thought is that they will trade it, as they already have what appears to be a franchise quarterback in Jaxson Dart and could definitely afford to stockpile draft capital.

The New York Jets have been rather consistently labeled as a potential trade partner for Big Blue, considering the Jets' dire need for a signal-caller coupled with the fact that they are absolutely loaded with draft assets the next couple of years.

However, Connor Hughes of SNY does not think a trade is very likely.

Why? Because the Giants would make the Jets pay through the nose.

"If the Giants have 1, and the packages are close, they won’t go Jets," Hughes wrote on X. "Jets will need to pay a premium."

While the Giants and Jets don't share a division or even a conference, the G-Men surely would prefer not to hand Fernando Mendoza to Gang Green and have him potentially light it up in their building for the next decade-plus.

That being said, if the Jets present the Giants with the best offer, it's hard to imagine that Big Blue wouldn't pull the trigger, and at that point, they would be foolish not to.

Thanks to a couple of blockbuster trade deadline moves, the Jets own five first-round picks between 2026 and 2027, so the Giants could absolutely rake the Jets over the coals if they so pleased. Of course, whether or not the Jets would actually pay that cost is another story.

All things considered, the Giants would hold pretty extensive leverage over the Jets given the fact that the 2026 quarterback class is slated to be very thin. Mendoza and Dante Moore appear to be the top two signal-callers available, and Ty Simpson might not even declare. If he does, he could slip to the back half of the first round.

So if the Jets really want Mendoza and the Giants own the No. 1 overall selection, they may have no choice but to give the G-Men what they want, unless they would be okay with selecting Moore or potentially Simpson.
