What should New York Giants fans expect from Cam Skattebo this week?
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo was clearly in John Harbaugh's doghouse last week, as he didn't get a single carry in the Giants' loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Skattebo fumbled four times in his first five games of the season, including a turnover that cost New York a win against the Washington Commanders the week prior.
But where does Skattebo stand heading into the Giants' Week 7 matchup versus the Houston Texans this Sunday?
New York released Najee Harris earlier this week, and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy revealed that's good news for Skattebo, saying that less backs means more touches for the ball-carries on the roster.
As for how Skattebo handled not getting a single carry last weekend?
Nagy said that it was very "impressive" how the second-year halfback handled the situation and how it's certainly not an easy thing to do.
Skattebo has said all of the right things in the aftermath, so it would be surprising to not see him back in the fold against the Texans.
The 24-year-old burst on to the scene in New York last season, rushing for 410 yards and five touchdowns while also catching 24 passes for 207 yards and a couple of scores before suffering a gruesome season-ending ankle injury in Week 8.
Skattebo worked his way back during the offseason and was ready for training camp, and he got off to a great start in the Giants' season opener with 81 yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts in a 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
However, the Arizona State product put the ball on the ground in each of the first three games, which was a major concern. He then had his fourth fumble in overtime against the Commanders in Week 5, but that time, it resulted in a turnover.
The Giants likely would have kicked a field goal to win the matchup had Skattebo not turned it over, which could end up costing Big Blue dearly come the end of the season.
Harbaugh said that Skattebo's dearth of carries in Week 6 was not a punishment, but Skattebo said otherwise, and he understood why he didn't get the football.
But make no mistake: New York needs Skattebo.
The Giants have one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL this season, so they absolutely need their top back to break through.
We'll see if Skattebo can bounce back in Houston this Sunday.
