Matthew Schmidt and Dylan Feltovich of New York Giants Roundtable break down the Giants' exciting — but awkward — NFL Draft in the latest edition of the Giants Roundtable podcast.
The New York Giants went into the NFL Draft with some very obvious needs, and while they did address some of them, they also came out of the draft with some serious questions.
The Giants selected Arvell Reese and Francis Mauigoa with their two first-round picks and then swung a big trade in the third round, sacrificing some draft capital in the process.
But did New York actually make the right moves here? Matthew Schmidt and Dylan Feltovich broke it down in the latest episode of the Giants Roundtable podcast.
Here is the summary:
- The Giants used the fifth overall pick on Reese, a player they really didn't need. Clearly, New York felt that Reese was the best player available, which was why it pulled the trigger. But on a team that already has Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, how will Reese be used? And is Thibodeaux inevitably going to get traded to clear that glut?
- Mauigoa was a much-needed selection at No. 10, and while he was a tackle at Miami, the Giants will be moving him inside with Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor already at the tackle spots. How important of a pick was Mauigoa, and how much will his versatility help the offense?
- New York addressed a big need by landing Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood with the 37th overall selection. Is Hood NFL-ready, and will be play a major role in the Giants' secondary next season? Hood was the third cornerback chosen, and some feel he actually could have been a late first-round pick.
- Big Blue traded its fourth and fifth-round draft picks plus a 2027 fourth-rounder to nab the 74th overall selection of the NFL Draft, where it nabbed Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields. Was Fields worth trading up for? Will he make a significant impact for Jaxson Dart? Or were the Giants better off just keeping their capital and taking a wide receiver a bit later?
- New York had three sixth-round picks, selecting Auburn defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis, Illinois tackle J.C. Davis and BYU linebacker Jack Kelly. The Kelly pick was particularly interesting seeing as how he had 10 sacks in 2025, but was the Jamison-Travis selection even worth it? Or were the Giants just trying to force a need by selecting the unathletic interior defender? Or perhaps New York really likes his potential as a run defender?
All that and more in the latest episode of the Giants Roundtable podcast.
