In the latest episode of the New York Giants Roundtable podcast, Matthew Schmidt and Dylan Feltovich discussed the Giants' potential NFL Draft plans, a possible Dexter Lawrence trade and more.
There is certainly no shortage of news when it comes to the New York Giants right now.
The NFL Draft is just two weeks away, and with the Giants owning the No. 5 overall pick and some peculiar rumors surrounding New York emerging, there is plenty to talk about regarding Big Blue.
Not only that, but Dexter Lawrence just requested a trade, which could completely change things for the Giants the remainder of the offseason.
Matthew Schmidt and Dylan Feltovich discussed all of that and more in the latest episode of the Giants Roundtable podcast.
The topics are as follows:
- Lawrence has requested a trade due to his dissatisfaction with his contract situation. He has two years left on his deal, but has no guaranteed money remaining. You also have to wonder if he is getting tired of losing in New York. Will the Giants actually move Lawrence? Do they actually have to trade him? Remember: Lawrence is under contract and really cannot afford to sit out.
- There has been rampant speculation that New York could select running back Jeremiyah Love with the fifth overall selection. Is this actually a thing? Would the Giants really use a top-five pick on a halfback? And what about the Sonny Styles buzz? Is that legitimate? Or is all of this potentially a smokescreen in an attempt for New York to try and trade down?
- As you would expect, there is a whole lot of buzz around the rest of the NFL leading up to the draft. Because a lot of this affects the Giants, Schmidt and Feltovich did a bit of a deep dive on what else could possibly happen around the league. What surprises could take place during the draft? Which teams should be monitored? Who are the potential risers and fallers?
- New York definitely needs another wide receiver, but it's looking less and less like Carnell Tate will be the pick at No. 5. That means the Giants will almost certainly circle back around and take a receiver later. One name to monitor is Cincinnati's Jeff Caldwell, who stands 6-foot-5 and runs a 4.30 40-yard dash. Could Big Blue potentially take Caldwell in the later rounds?
All that and more in the newest episode of the Giants Roundtable podcast.
