The New York Giants seem to be trending toward placing this player on the 53-man roster.
Back on June 1, the New York Giants signed three wide receivers: Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster and Braxton Berrios.
Beckham received the most fanfare for obvious reasons, but Smith-Schuster was also an intriguing pickup because of his consistent production. Then, there was Berrios, who was nothing more than an afterthought.
But Berrios brought something to the table that Beckham and Smith-Schuster did not: special teams prowess.
Now, here we are after two preseason games, and the Giants have already cut Smith-Schuster. Beckham also hasn't exactly knocked anyone's socks off thus far, so his roster spot could be in danger.
Berrios? He served as a returner in New York's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings. He then did not play versus the Miami Dolphins on Saturday (he apparently had a minor soft-tissue injury), which I found particularly interesting.
If he were actually on the roster bubble, wouldn't John Harbaugh play him in the preseason to see what he has?

What's odd is that the 30-year-old barely played in 2024 and 2025 with the Dolphins and Houston Texans, respectively, but he appears to have been rejuvenated with the Giants.
New York is definitely keeping Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin III and rookie Malachi Fields at wide receiver. Darnell Mooney seems to be less certain, but you get the feeling that Big Blue will end up retaining him.
That probably leaves one spot left for a wide receiver, and Berrios could end up snatching it. That is, of course, unless the Giants specifically view Berrios as a special teamer and would also be open to keeping a seventh receiver in Beckham, but that would then remove a roster spot elsewhere.
Berrios' rise is one of the bigger surprises of training camp for New York, especially considering how compelling the wide receiver battle has been throughout the summer.
Who would have thought that Berrios would emerge the victor?
But based on what we have seen, it's looking more and more like the eight-year NFL veteran will end up stealing a roster spot.
