The New York Giants may want to consider this wide receiver option in the later rounds of the NFL Draft.
The New York Giants signed a pair of wide receivers in free agency, landing Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III. While both were good pickups, the Giants still need another body in their receiving corps to help quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Malik Nabers is working his way back from a torn ACL, and New York lost Wan'Dale Robinson to Brian Daboll and the Tennessee Titans.
While it's looking like the Giants will be going in a different direction from Carnell Tate with the No. 5 overall pick, it would be very surprising if New York didn't select a wide out at some point in this year's NFL Draft.
The good news is that this upcoming draft class is absolutely teeming with talent at the position, and the Giants could potentially find a late-round gem to pair alongside of Nabers with either Mooney or Austin in the slot.
One tantalizing option is North Dakota State star Bryce Lance.
The younger brother of quarterback Trey Lance, Bryce is one of the most underrated receivers in his group.
Lance, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 210 pounds, ran a 4.34 in the 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine and ranked No. 1 among all receivers in athleticism score at NFL.com. In fact, he ranked No. 2 in overall score at the Combine.
Bryce Lance. Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images. The Marshall, Mn. native is a classic X-receiver who would give the Giants exactly what they need: a big-bodied weapon to present a target for Dart in the red zone.
Unless you're counting Isaiah Hodgins, Big Blue does not currently have that.
Lance hauled in 51 receptions for 1,079 yards and eight touchdowns this past year, averaging a ridiculous 21.2 yards per catch. In 2024, he caught 75 passes for 1,053 yards and 17 scores. That's 25 touchdowns across two seasons.
Yes, I understand that Lance wasn't playing in a Power-4 conference, but that production is eye-opening no matter how you slice it.
Here's the real kicker: Lance is not expected to come off the board until Day 3, which will give New York an opportunity to select him in either the fourth or fifth round.
I will say that I do think there is a chance that a team reaches for Lance a bit earlier given his body type and unreal athleticism, but in a deep receiver class, there is also the chance he slips.
If the Giants opt not to select a receiver in the first couple of rounds next month, circling back around to Lance on Day 3 could represent a major steal for the squad.
