The New York Giants should target these three positions before the NFL trade deadline.

The New York Giants are 3-1-1 heading into Week 6 and are amazingly sitting at the top of the NFC East without Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns.

Given the ineptitude of the rest of this division, the Giants might actually have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs.

As a result, New York might actually want to buy before the NFL trade deadline. Carefully, of course.

There is no need to surrender draft capital for rentals, but the Giants should at least be considering shoring up areas of need.

Here are three positions New York should be targeting between now and Nov. 10.

Wide receiver

The Giants worked hard on their wide receiver room during the offseason, signing Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III and Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency while also selecting Malachi Fields in the NFL Draft.

But Austin is out for the year due to a torn ACL he suffered in training camp, and it didn't take long for New York to cut ties with Beckham.

Mooney has been a virtual non-factor thus far, and while Fields has flashed potential, he's still just a rookie.

The Giants could absolutely use some depth behind Malik Nabers, as they are one injury away from having virtually nothing in the passing game.

No, they don't have to go all out for Brian Thomas Jr., but they definitely should scour the market for affordable veteran options.

Defensive tackle

DJ Reader has been very impressive for New York thus far in 2026, but otherwise, the Giants have struggled on the interior.

Shelby Harris looks every bit of 34 years old, and while CJ Okoye has been solid in limited action, he doesn't appear ready for an extended role. It's also worth noting that Chauncey Golston is on injured reserve due to a neck injury.

New York really should prioritize defensive tackle in the NFL Draft next April, but for now, it wouldn't hurt to bring in another veteran to stabilize the trenches alongside of Reader.

The Giants rank 25th in the league in rushing defense through five weeks, and while that number is a bit skewed because of Jayden Daniels, it's clear New York is still struggling to stop the run.

Bringing in another big body at DT would help solve that.

Cornerback

Let me start by saying that I absolutely love what I have seen from Deonte Banks. He looks like a completely different player this season, as Dennard Wilson's press-heavy scheme has obviously unlocked something in the former first-round pick.

The rest of the position, however, has been an adventure.

Paulson Adebo is on injured reserve and is eligible to return this week, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Greg Newsome II has labored. Colton Hood has looked very much like a rookie, and his status this Sunday is up in the air due to a concussion.

If Hood is unable to go against the New Orleans Saints, Nic Jones will enter the lineup.

Yeah; the Giants definitely need to add another piece here, and there are generally always decent options available before the deadline.
