The New York Giants just received some brutal news on Jaxson Dart.
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left his team's loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night due to a knee injury he suffered in the first quarter.
While it appeared ugly, Dart walked off the field under his own power, and the fact that his left leg wasn't planted when the injury occurred — he was airborne when he was hit — seemed to benefit him.
Initial reports were that Dart had a sprained MCL, which would only cause him to miss a few weeks. In fact, Dart had to be stopped from going back into the game on Monday.
However, things have taken an awful turn.
ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that Dart's injury is worse than originally expected and may have to undergo season-ending surgery to repair it.
Schefter did not go into detail about the extent of the injury, but regardless, this is horrendous news for the Giants.
Dart had gone 3-for-5 with 20 yards before exiting in Week 2. He had previously led New York to a 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener, going 23-for-29 with 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding 54 rushing yards.
The Giants selected Dart with the 25th overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, trading up to acquire him.
Dart then went on to make 12 starts for New York during his rookie campaign, throwing for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 487 yards and nine scores on the ground.
The Ole Miss product began 2025 on the bench behind Russell Wilson, but ultimately supplanted him as the starter as soon as Week 4. He then proceeded to miss a couple of games due to a concussion late in the year.
Dart's durability had been questioned heading into 2026, but that was primarily due to his recklessness as runner last season. The knee injury he sustained against the Rams on Monday evening was more of a freak accident than anything else.
New York also watched as wide receiver Malik Nabers, tackle Andrew Thomas and edge rusher Brian Burns suffered injuries in the team's Week 2 loss, as well.
The Giants will face the Tennessee Titans next Sunday.
