The New York Giants are facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8 NFL action. Unfortunately, in the second quarter with the team trailing the Eagles 14-7, the Giants saw rising star rookie running back Cam Skattebo go down with a gruesome leg injury.
Skattebo has been playing at an extremely high level throughout his first NFL season. Losing him will be a tough blow for a New York offense that has struggled throughout the year thus far.
Of course, there has been no official diagnosis of the injury. Fans will have to wait to find out the severity.
Coming into the matchup against Philadelphia, the Giants held a 2-5 record. While the team has not been winning a lot, the future is bright with Skattebo and Jaxson Dart leading the way.
As for the 23-year-old rookie running back, he has already been producing great numbers.
Throughout his first seven career games before today, Skattebo had carried the football 98 times for 398 yards and five touchdowns. He was averaging 4.1 yards per carry and had also caught 23 passes for 189 yards and another score.
Prior to the injury, Skattebo had racked up 12 yards on three carries and a catch for 18 yards and a touchdown.
Hopefully, the injury is not as serious as it appeared to be on the field. New York will hope for good news, although from the eye test it looked like a potential season-ending injury.
Assuming the injury is severe, the hope for the Giants is that he can work his way back to the field without suffering any setbacks. He's a hard worker with the heart of a lion. There is no doubt that he will attack his rehab process aggressively as he looks to make his way back.
Expect to hear more news about Skattebo in the near future. For now, all fans can do is wait.
At the time of this writing, New York is trailing the Eagles by a score of 14-7 in the second quarter. Dart and company will look to rebound from the emotional injury and try to make a comeback. The Giants previously defeated Philadelphia by a score of 34-17 earlier this season.
