The New York Giants are being pressed to make a stunning roster move.

The New York Giants' defense has been a massive disappointment this season and is actually the biggest reason why the team is just 2-10 on the year.

The Giants have blown five double-digit fourth-quarter leads, and their rushing defense is allowing an unseemly 5.9 yards per carry.

Clearly, New York has to address this issue during the offseason, and that definitely involves getting a bit beefier on the interior.

It would make sense, then, for the Giants to acquire a defensive tackle to put alongside of Dexter Lawrence, who has struggled in 2025. But Logan Ulrich of NFL Trade Rumors actually feels New York should consider cutting ties with Lawrence.

"Lawrence being on this list might seem surprising at first, but his production has taken a major step back this year, with just half a sack and nine solo tackles on the season," Ulrich wrote. "He’s made more headlines for feuding with team legend Carl Banks than anything he’s done on the field. Lawrence is due $20 million in cash next year, and that would be a lot for the Giants to give up for another year of this version of Lawrence."

Let me just say this right off the bat: there is absolutely no way the Giants will release Lawrence this offseason. If anything, they would trade the three-time Pro Bowler, but I don't even see that happening.

It seems pretty clear that Lawrence is dealing with some sort of injury this year. Remember: he suffered a dislocated elbow that kept him out for the final five games in 2024, so it's entirely possible the issue is still giving him trouble this season. It's either that, or something else is going on, because there is no way other way to explain his plummeting production.

The former first-round pick is just 28 years old, so it's not like Lawrence is aging. He should have plenty left in the tank, and he has long been of the best interior defensive linemen in football.

With the Giants struggling so much against the run, parting ways with Lawrence would not exactly be the wisest move. New York should be aiming to get the Lawrence some help, which could include drafting fellow Clemson product Peter Woods in the NFL Draft.

There aren't going to be many defensive tackles available on the free-agent market this coming offseason, so Big Blue may be forced to utilize a high draft pick on one.

Cutting Lawrence simply is not an option for this Giants squad.
