John Harbaugh and the New York Giants have finalized a five-year contract.
Harbaugh released the following statement on taking the Giants job:
"This is the New York Giants," Harbaugh told ESPN. "I'm proud and honored to the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families. But most of all, I can’t wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together."
The Giants haven't made the playoffs since the 2022 season. That was the first year of the Brian Daboll era.
Daboll was fired during the middle of this season.
It will be intriguing to see how Harbaugh does in his first season in New York in 2026. He has QB Jaxson Dart and WR Malik Nabers on offense and LB Brian Burns and DL Dexter Lawrence on defense.
The Giants went 4-13 this season. They finished with the worst record in the NFC East.
Harbaugh is considered one of the best coaches in NFL history. He went 180-113 in the regular season and 13-11 in the playoffs with the Baltimore Ravens.
Baltimore, led by Joe Flacco and Ray Lewis, won Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31.
The Giants have the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Their biggest needs are WR, OL, CB, LB and S, according to NFL.com.
Only time will tell how successful Dart is under Harbaugh, who now needs to hire the right OC for Dart.
An Ole Miss product, Dart finished his rookie season with 2,272 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 487 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
For the first time in the post-Eli Manning era, the Giants appear to have a franchise QB. Now, they have an elite coach and leader of men.
