An NFL trade idea sending New York Giants star Kayvon Thibodeaux to the Detroit Lions has been created.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Giants and Lions:
Detroit Lions Get: Edge Kayvon Thibodeaux
New York Giants Get: Conditional 2027 3rd-round pick
Thibodeaux played in 10 games for the Giants last season. He had 2.5 sacks, 13 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and nine QB hits.
The Giants selected Thibodeaux with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Thibodeaux enters next season with 23.5 career sacks, 86 solo tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 55 QB hits.
Thibodeaux had a great start to his NFL career, racking up 15.5 sacks in his first two seasons. For whatever reason, the Oregon product hasn't been dominant the past two seasons. He could need a change of scenery.
"Right now, Kayvon's going to be with us," Giants general manager Joe Schoen said. "He played well. He is going into his fifth year and he's motivated and you can't have enough pass rushers. You really can't. So I'm proud of the development and the maturation of Kayvon and he's come a long way. And I expect big things out of him next year with that rotation.
According to The Athletic's Ian O'Connor, the Giants are "fine" with keeping Thibodeaux, but they could be "compelled" to make a deal with "an offer of a late second-round pick or early third-round pick."
With Brian Burns and 2025 first-round pick Abdul Carter on the roster, Thibodeaux is somewhat expendable. It will be fascinating to see if the Giants trade Thibodeaux this offseason.
