The New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs could hook up on a significant trade this NFL offseason.

The New York Giants will surely be very busy in the coming weeks, especially with John Harbaugh now at the helm.

The Giants need to open up some cap room, they have to make some key free-agent signings and they need to knock the NFL Draft out of the park.

But their first order of business could be trading edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has fallen behind both Brian Burns and Abdul Carter on the depth chart. A trade seems imminent, especially with New York lacking a third-round pick this April.

There should be no shortage of teams interested in Thibodeaux, a former first-round selection who racked up 50 tackles, 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles during his second NFL season back in 2023.

As for potential landing spots? Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari has pitched an intriguing team, naming the Kansas City Chiefs as a possible option.

The Chiefs managed just 35 sacks this past season, which ranked toward the bottom of the league. They could definitely stand to add another pass rusher, and Thibodeaux would fit the bill.

Kansas City owns its third-round selection this spring, so a straight-up swap of Thibodeaux for the pick could be just what the doctor ordered for both sides.

Trading Thibodeaux would free up about $15 million for New York, which currently has just $5.1 million in cap room.

It makes too much sense for the Giants to trade Thibodaux at this point. He has missed 12 games the last two years due to injuries, and Carter broke out during the final seven contests of 2025 with Thibodeaux sidelined.

Not only that, but it's important to remember that New York signed Chauncey Golston to a three-year deal last March, so the Giants do have some depth on the edge even if they move Thibodeaux.

New York also needs as much draft capital as possible to properly fill out the roster. With holes at defensive tackle, cornerback, wide receiver and offensive line, among other areas, it makes sense to trade from a position of strength.

It seems like only a matter of time before Thibodeaux gets dealt, and the Chiefs could be one of the club that decide to pursue him.
