The New York Giants could potentially pull off a massive NFL Draft coup.
The New York Giants have several prominent needs to fill this offseason, with defensive tackle, cornerback, wide receiver and offensive line being the primary holes that must be addressed.
Right now, the Giants do not have a ton of cap room, and they also don't have a whole lot of draft capital. They are missing a third-round pick, so they will have to make all of those other selections — especially the early ones — really count.
As a result, it will be difficult for John Harbaugh and Co. to repair all of the issues in one fell swoop this spring, but a path may be forming for New York.
The Giants own the fifth overall pick this April, and we have seen mock drafts all over the place in terms of who they will take. Wide receiver Carnell Tate seems to be a popular choice, but I have also seen safety Caleb Downs and offensive tackle Spencer Fano floated as possibilities.
But there is one player who was once viewed as a potential option for New York at No. 5 who has seen his NFL Draft stock torpedo in recent weeks: Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods.

So much so, in fact, that ESPN's Matt Miller recently predicted him to fall to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 41 — four spots after the Giants' second-round pick.
I have been pounding the table for Woods all year, so if there is a chance that he could actually fall to the second round, New York has to jump on him.
In that scenario, the Giants could take someone like Tate in Round 1 and then pluck Woods with the 37th overall selection. That would represent a tremendous early-round haul, and it's something Big Blue should absolutely be considering.
Now, do I think Woods will actually fall that far? No. It's also important to remember that he has the Scouting Combine later this month to boost his stock. A strong showing in Indianapolis would do wonders for him.
I still feel that Woods won't slide past the first round, but if he somehow does take the plunge to Day 2, the Giants should be waiting with open arms.
