There was a whole lot of good in the New York Giants' Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys, but there were some miscues, as well.
There's no need to dwell on anything negative if you're a New York Giants fan on Monday. The Giants took care of business on Sunday night, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 28-20 in a fairly convincing win.
Jaxson Dart was brilliant. Isaiah Likely flashed star potential. Both Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers looked healthy. The offensive line was in maul mode. The defense allowed a grand total of 244 yards to an explosive offense.
But we can't overlook a couple of players who did not exactly have great performances on opening night, and now, both of them are on on notice heading into Week 2 and beyond.
Who are they?
Tyrone Tracy, RB
Had Tyrone Tracy not had such a rocky preseason, his miscue on Sunday evening wouldn't have been as glaring. But considering Tracy's mistakes in the Giants' exhibition games, it's hard to look past what he did in Week 1.
Tracy saw two offensive snaps against the Cowboys, totaling 14 rushing yards on two carries ... the second of which ended in a drive-killing red-zone fumble.
Thankfully, it was no harm, no foul, as Jevon Holland picked off Dak Prescott on the ensuing Dallas possession, which led to a New York touchdown.
But it clearly put Tracy in the doghouse, as he did not see the field for the rest of the way.
Devin Singletary is obviously ahead of Tracy on the depth chart, which was a big surprise going into the game. And to make matters worse for Tracy, Dart is clearly becoming very comfortable with Singletary, finding him for four completions — and Singletary's first receiving touchdown as a Giant — in the victory.
Najee Harris was inactive for the affair, but based on what we saw in very limited action from Tracy in the opener, you kind of get the feeling Harris — who has an extended track record — has a chance to get the nod over Tracy moving forward.
Tracy is incredibly talented and is the Giants' most explosive running back, but his gaffes are becoming too much for John Harbaugh to overlook.
Dru Phillips, NB
I specifically highlighted Dru Phillips as someone to monitor heading into Week 1 after the nickelback had such a rough sophomore campaign in 2025.
Well, things didn't get much better for Phillips against the Cowboys.
The 24-year-old was flagged for pass interference three times in the affair, and while you can make the argument that one or two of them were tacky calls, it's hard to ignore the fact that this has become a trend for Phillips.
Phillips was penalized nine times last season, which ranked second on the Giants and 10th in the NFL overall. His infractions didn't cost New York versus Dallas, but they could absolutely come back to bite the team as the year progresses.
The Giants signed Ar'Darius Washington during the offseason, and considering both Harbaugh and defensive coordinator are vey familiar with Washington from his Baltimore Ravens days, there is a chance he steals Phillips' job at some point.
Washington played just one snap in Week 1, but he has been a very good defensive back in the past and is certainly capable of playing a significant role for Big Blue.
Phillips was very impressive during his rookie season in 2024. He has not looked like the same player since.
