This is the last thing the New York Giants need right now.

The New York Giants have dealt with enough injury issues this year. Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns are both out for the season. Andrew Thomas is nursing a groin issue. Jermaine Eluemunor just hurt his calf. The secondary is banged up.

But just when you thought it couldn't get any worse for the Giants, another alarming injury concern popped up on Wednesday.

Abdul Carter did not practice on Wednesday due to a calf injury, and while head coach John Harbaugh said Carter is "doing very well," it's hard not to be worried.

Calf issues can be tricky, and for a player like Carter who relies heavily on his explosiveness and burst, it can become a very serious problem.

Harbaugh doesn't sound too concerned, so hopefully, it's just something minor and Carter is being held out as a precautionary measure.

But the Giants are already without Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux has been a non-factor through the first five games.

The last thing New York's ailing pass rush needs is for Carter to be sidelined, too.

Carter has logged two sacks and six quarterback hits thus far, so it's not like he's been a game-wrecker. But he has been, by far, the Giants' best pass rusher, and he was No. 3 overall pick in 2025 for a reason.

New York has managed just eight sacks as a team heading into Week 6, which ranks toward the bottom of the NFL.

Obviously, losing Burns — who racked up 16.5 sacks a year ago — is devastating. But the Giants should still be generating more pressure with Carter and Thibodeaux than they have.

It would certainly help if Thibodeaux were more effective. The 25-year-old has posted six tackles and no sacks, and his lone quarterback hit came back in Week 1.

You would never know this is the same Thibodeaux that rattled off 11.5 sacks in 2023 and appeared to be an up-and-coming star at the time.

For now, though, the Giants absolutely Carter on the field, not just because Thibodeaux has been struggling, but because Carter is supposed to be New York's next star defender.

Carter was one of five Giants players to miss practice Wednesday, with Thomas, Eluemunor, Colton Hood and Tyler Nubin being the others.

New York will be hosting the 1-4 New Orleans Saints this Sunday and will have a brilliant opportunity to improve to 4-1-1 and bolster its standing at the top of the NFC East.

Hopefully, Carter is able to take the gridiron for Big Blue.
