The New York Giants want to trade down in the NFL Draft, but there is a caveat.

The New York Giants own the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL Draft, and it's looking more and more like they want to trade down.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated has named the Giants among five teams who are looking to move out of their first-round draft pick, but it may not be so easy for New York to pull off a deal.

"Team picking behind the Jets are looking to move down. Count the Cardinals, Titans, Giants, Browns and Commanders among those already looking at trying to drop down in the order to accumulate capital. The problem for those five is finding teams to move up," Breer wrote.

This draft class isn't exactly loaded with talent at the top, so you can understand why most teams won't be too eager to part with significant draft capital to trade for a top-five pick that might not even yield a franchise talent.

However, Breer notes that there are two players that could entice another club into moving up: edge rusher Arvell Reese and running back Jeremiyah Love.

The problem? It's entirely possible — if not likely — that both of those players are off the board by the time the Giants pick at No. 5.

Many have Reese going to either the Jets or Cardinals at No. 2 or 3, and Love looks like a terrific for the Titans at No. 4.

If that ends up happening, Big Blue may have a very difficult time trading out of the No. 5 selection.

Breer specifically specified the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys as two teams that could potentially be interested in moving up for one of the two aforementioned prospects, but would the Giants really complete such a massive deal with the Cowboys and give them a player they want?

There are a whole lot of moving parts here, and we won't get a clear picture until Day 1 of the NFL Draft next Thursday.

But New York's willingness/eagerness to trade down is absolutely an indication that it is not entirely enamored with any of the talent expected to be available when it is on the clock, which flies in the face of rumors that the Giants are salivating over either linebacker Sonny Styles or safety Caleb Downs at No. 5.

Hopefully, the G-Men are able to find a trade partner, as they can seriously use more draft capital. Right now, New York has just two picks in the top 100.
