If the New York Giants trade Dexter Lawrence, here is where he could land.
Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade from the New York Giants, and unless the Giants rework his contract, all signs point to Lawrence being traded this offseason.
So, where could Lawrence get traded to? NFL analyst Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report believes the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears are potential trade partners.
Lawrence has requested a trade because the Giants have been reluctant to alter his $20 million salary for 2026. The three-time Pro Bowler has two years left on his current contract.
Last season, Lawrence had the worst year of his career. He put up only 0.5 sacks, 14 solo tackles, four tackles for loss and eight QB hits.
In 109 games with the Giants, Lawrence has 30.5 sacks, 185 solo tackles, 40 tackles for loss and 103 QB hits. He's one of the best players in the league at his position and multiple teams have already contacted New York about trading for the veteran.
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the Giants' likely return in a Lawrence trade would be a late first-round pick or a second-rounder. Raanan thinks the Giants "better pull out the checkbook to make it work for at least one more season," especially since defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson is bullish on keeping Lawrence
Giants general manager Joe Schoen was asked last week at the NFL's annual meeting in Phoenix about the possibility of adjusting Lawrence's contract.
"Yeah, again, we have a lot of those conversations as we continue to build or, to your point, open up money," Schoen said. "Like, where can we do it? Could we do an extension with other players? What does that look like? So we're always having those conversations, not only with Dexter but on other players. And that's part of our mapping out the offseason and planning."
If the Giants don't pay Lawrence, the DT will likely be on a new team next season, which would be a tough pill to swallow for John Harbaugh, who is considered one of the best coaches in NFL history. He went 180-113 in the regular season and 13-11 in the playoffs with the Baltimore Ravens.
