New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with what looked like a serious injury against the Rams.
The New York Giants entered Week 2 action on Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams with renewed excitement surrounding the franchise.
In Week 1, the Giants were able to pull off a major upset over the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys. Jaxson Dart and the offense looked much-improved, which gave the fan base hope.
Unfortunately, it didn't take long against the Rams for that excitement and hope to disappear.
Early on in the first quarter, Dart was hit hard by two Los Angeles defenders. He went down holding his knee and was quickly removed from the game. After a brief stint in the blue tent, Dart moved slowly back into the locker room, with Jameis Winston taking over.
Jeff Mueller, a notable sports doctor who has become popular on social media, shared his concern about a potential MCL or ACL injury.
No official diagnosis has been shared about the injury. Dart may have avoided a serious injury due to neither leg being planted on the ground at the time of the hits.
Fellow sports doctor Jesse Morse weighed in with that opinion.
"At the minimum an MCL sprain, but likely a bone bruise as well," Morse wrote. "He may have gotten super lucky because really neither leg was planted when the impact was taken. Sometimes this can impact the ACL as well."
During New York's season opener, Dart looked sharp. He completed 23 of his 29 passes for 230 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. In addition, he chipped in with 54 yards on 11 carries.
Hopefully, the Giants get good news about Dart in the coming hours. The young quarterback still seems likely to miss some time, but the hope is that it isn't a season-ending injury.
Only time will tell, but New York will simply have to hope that Winston can keep the team afloat. Early results from Winston against the Rams at the time of this writing haven't been great. He has completed just four of his 12 passes for 58 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception.
As more information becomes available, we'll make sure to share it. For now, there is serious concern surrounding the Giants' franchise as fans continue waiting for more word about Dart's status.
