The New York Giants have received some tough news on a potential blockbuster trade.

The New York Giants will have plenty of critical decisions to make this offseason, and one of them will be deciding what to do with edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux has fallen behind both Brian Burns and Abdul Carter in the Giants' edge rusher rotation, and he is entering the final year of his contract.

The chances of New York paying Thibodeaux big money past 2026 are very slim. It has already paid Burns, and a handsome deal for Carter is also in the pipeline.

With the Giants also having Chauncey Golston on the roster, whom they signed to a three-year, $19 million pact last March, a trade seems to be firmly on the table when it comes to Thibodeaux.

But could a move involving the 25-year-old become complicated?

Well, based on the quality of edge rushers slated to be available in the coming months yes.

ESPN's Ben Solak has ranked edge rusher as the deepest position this offseason, rattling off a plethora of names on the free-agent market while also mentioning how many pass rushers will be on the board in the NFL Draft.

This could make it difficult for the Giants to secure what they feel is fair value in return for Thibodeaux, which is probably a Day 2 pick.

With so many edge rushers on the market, teams may rather sign one or draft one rather than surrender draft capital for a player who is slated to hit free agency himself in another year.

Thibodeaux is very talented. He is a former first-round selection himself, and he racked up 11.5 sacks during his sophomore campaign in 2023. However, he has missed 12 games over the last two years due to injuries, and he has managed just eight sacks in total since 2024.

Those red flags could prevent rival teams from giving Big Blue what it wants in a trade for Thibodeaux, and while that doesn't necessarily mean New York will be holding on to him, it does entail that the Giants might be waiting a while to find a deal they like.

Or perhaps the G-Men will have to settle.

Most likely, some club out there will be willing to offer New York a third-rounder for Thibodeaux, which would be ideal because the Giants do not own a Round 3 pick this spring. But it will be more complicated than it looks for New York to find such a return.
