Would the New York Giants really trade Kayvon Thibodeaux to a rival?
A New York Giants rival has been urged to trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux.
NFL analyst Alex Kay of Bleacher Report believes the Dallas Cowboys should trade for Thibodeaux this offseason.
"The Dallas Cowboys make sense as a landing spot for the talented but underperforming edge defender, even if it means working out a deal with a bitter NFC East rival to acquire him," Kay wrote. "With Thibodeaux playing out the final year of his rookie deal and set to hit free agency next spring, the Giants don't have a ton of leverage in trade negotiations. Given the contract situation and fading production, New York isn't likely to garner any offers better than a late-Day 2 or early-Day 3 pick for his services.
"Dallas has several draft picks in this range it could use to make a run at Thibodeaux, including Nos. 92 and 112 overall. While his recent efforts don't quite warrant that sort of capital, Thibodeaux is still only 25 years old and has shown he can be a double-digit sack contributor when healthy and motivated. Trading for Thibodeaux is the type of gamble the Cowboys must make if they are going to make significant defensive strides in 2026 following last year's abysmal showing."
Thibodeaux played in 10 games for the Giants last season. He had 2.5 sacks, 13 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and nine QB hits.
The Giants selected Thibodeaux with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Thibodeaux enters next season with 23.5 career sacks, 86 solo tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 55 QB hits.
Thibodeaux had a great start to his NFL career, racking up 15.5 sacks in his first two seasons. For whatever reason, the Oregon product hasn't been dominant the past two seasons.
"Right now, Kayvon's going to be with us," Giants general manager Joe Schoen said. "He played well. He is going into his fifth year and he's motivated and you can't have enough pass rushers. You really can't. So I'm proud of the development and the maturation of Kayvon and he's come a long way. And I expect big things out of him next year with that rotation."
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Giants will likely keep Thibodeaux after trading Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals.
