The New York Giants are engaging in trade discussions regarding one of their pass rushers.

The New York Giants selected Arvell Reese with the 5th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

That selection led to questions about where Reese will fit on the team, as New York already has Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux coming off the edge.

It seems there may be an answer to that question as the Giants have engaged in trade conversations involving Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux was a first-round pick by New York in the 2022 NFL Draft and is entering the final year of his rookie contract, as the team accepted his fifth-year option.

Thibodeaux has had mixed results on the field in his career thus far. He had a solid rookie season, finishing with 49 total tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

He then had a breakout campaign in 2023, finishing with 50 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

However, following that season, his numbers regressed, as he had 28 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in 12 games in 2024 and 25 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks in 2025.

While Thibodeaux has a ton of talent, it seems the Giants are prioritizing Burns, Carter, and Reese as their former first-round pick enters the final year of his contract.

Burns is coming off an unreal season, as he finished with 67 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

Carter also showed some flashes in his rookie campaign, finishing with 43 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Reese also adds to their pass rush after a great career at Ohio State. He was an All-American in the 2025 season for the Buckeyes, as he had 69 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.

New York is ushering in a new era with John Harbaugh as their head coach, and their next big move seems to be moving on from Thibodeaux via a trade.
