This New York Giants weapon could surprise some people next season.

The New York Giants did not select any running backs in the NFL Draft, nor did they sign any in free agency.

Yes, they flirted with the idea of Jeremiyah Love, but he flew off the board two picks before the Giants were even on the clock at No. 5.

It seems pretty clear that for New York, unless it was able to nab Love (and that may just have been a smokescreen anyway), it wasn't going to be bringing in any other halfbacks, especially after deciding not to cut third-string back Devin Singletary.

The Giants will head into 2026 with Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy as their top two players in the backfield, and based on how well both weapons performed last season, that certainly isn't the worst thing in the world.

We already know just how versatile Skattebo is, and his name is already pretty ubiquitous. But what about Tracy?

Tracy was largely underutilized by Brian Daboll, which became very clear considering how well he played down the stretch after Daboll was fired last fall.

Now, some of that was also because Skattebo was sidelined with an ankle injury, but one would be remiss to ignore just how fresh Tracy looked with new coaching.

And now, New York has John Harbaugh — who certainly knows how to get the most out of his rushing attack — at the helm, which means we should be seeing a healthy dosage of Tracy next season.

Yes, Skattebo is probably still the No. 1 back, but this isn't a situation in which Skattebo will be doubling up Tracy in touches. Tracy will still be very involved, and he could end up being one of the biggest surprises in the NFL.

Tracy rushed for 740 yards and a couple of touchdowns in 2025 while also hauling in 36 receptions for 388 yards and a pair of scores. We know he is a very capable all-purpose back, and I fully anticipate Harbaugh to get the most out of him.

The Giants also improved their offensive line by selecting Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick in the draft, which should help open clearer running lanes for New York's halfbacks. That means Tracy could be in for some big gains.

Plus, with Jaxson Dart entering his sophomore campaign, Harbaugh will surely want to play it relatively safe with him to make things as easy as possible for the young quarterback. That could mean plenty of screen passes and check downs, which is where Tracy can absolutely shine.

I'm not saying Tracy will become a 1,000-yard rusher in 2026, especially considering that his carries will likely be split. But do I expect him to be a very valuable all-around weapon for Big Blue and a breakout player in general? Yes.
