The New York Giants received major news on head coach candidate John Harbaugh.

The New York Giants are finalizing a deal to make John Harbaugh their next head coach. The deal is not completed as the contract is being negotiated, but he is expected to be the next coach of the Giants.

This is a major addition for New York after firing Brian Daboll in the middle of the 2025 season. Harbaugh has a ton of success, having spent the last 18 years as the head coach for the Baltimore Ravens.

During that time, Harbaugh led the Ravens to 13 winning seasons, 12 playoff appearances, six AFC North titles, and a Super Bowl title in 2012.

He was one of the top coaches on the market with interviews by several teams after the Ravens fired him.

New York has built a solid young core with quarterback Jaxson Dart at the helm. In his rookie season, Dart was impressive when he stayed on the field, completing 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed for 487 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Giants also have a talented running back in Cam Skattebo and an elite wide receiver, Malik Nabers. Both had season-ending injuries in 2025, they have proven to be high-quality weapons.

The defense is more established with an elite defensive line of Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, Dexter Lawrence II, and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

New York also holds the No. 5 and No. 37 overall picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, giving them the chance to add core pieces to the roster.

With the young talent on the roster and the draft picks to add more to the roster, bringing in a coach like Harbaugh could elevate the Giants in 2026.

Harbaugh developed quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Ravens into one of the best teams in the AFC every year.

With the Giants having a ton of cornerstone players in place, Harbaugh inherits a roster that he could develop into a playoff team.

New York hasn't made it to the playoffs since 2022, but with a deal for Harbaugh imminent, it could change the trajectory of the franchise.
