Ol’ Reliable: Giants’ Receiver Given High Praise from Russell Wilson cover image

Out of all the things that have gone wrong with the New York Giants over the years, there’s been one consistent force.

Wan’Dale Robinson, the 2022 second round draft pick out of the University of Kentucky, may not have the star power of a Malik Nabers, but he’s there whenever the Giants need a play.

But now, with three seasons as a pro under his belt, has the ceiling risen higher for Robinson?

His quarterback Russell Wilson seems to think so.

"He reminds me a lot of Tyler Lockett," Wilson said of Robinson. "I think Tyler was a guy who loved the game, saw the game well and had a great feel for space. Tyler's one of my favorite all-time people and also one of my favorite guys I've ever gotten to play with… I think Wan'Dale has a very similar nature in terms of his love for his teammates, his love for the game, the experience that he's getting every day being out there. I think that's pretty cool to see."

It’s high praise for Robinson, as Wilson spent countless seasons with Lockett, and contributed to Lockett placing second in Seattle Seahawks history as an all-time leader in receiving yards.

For Robinson, there’s always a place for someone like him in the league. He consistently finds himself in the right spots, mainly in the slot, and has the speed to create separation if he needs to go on a go-route.

"I've always wanted to be a quarterback's best friend in that sort of way on third down that they know I'm going to be available, I'm going to be open and there's always going to be somebody there that's going to catch that ball," Robinson told Giants.com Senior Managing Editor, Dan Salomone.

And he was just that in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.

It may have been a crushing blow to Big Blue, but New York seemed like it belonged. Wilson looked like his old self throwing clutch moon balls, but Robinson was the underlying star of the show.

While Nabers and Wilson took the spotlight, Robinson was hiding in the weeds with a tremendous career-high output of 142 yards on eight receptions and a touchdown.

That touchdown ended up being a 32 yard touchdown that helped the Giants pull ahead in the fourth quarter with less than three minutes left in the game

Robinson continued, "From the moment that Russ got here, he was like, 'Dude, I know you can get down the field. I've seen it.' We worked out together and he was like, 'I didn't even know you could run that well just from watching the tape from previous games.' So, he was like, 'We're going to make sure that this gets going.'”

It’s a small step for the Giants, but an enormous step for Robinson, as he attempts to become one of the Giants most trustworthy receivers.

New York’s next game is its home opener during Sunday Night Football, where it takes on the Kansas City Chiefs. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC..
