The New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers were named potential trade suitors for New York Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Bleacher Report named the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers as potential trade suitors for New York Giants star Kayvon Thibodeaux.
With Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Arvell Reese on the Giants' roster, there has been talk for some time that Thibodeaux could be traded.
"If Thibodeaux doesn't earn a prominent role early under new head coach John Harbaugh, the Giants should listen to offers once again. This time around, a third-rounder that can become a second-round pick with incentives may be enough to put him on a pass-rush-needy defense," Bleacher Report wrote.
Thibodeaux played in 10 games for the Giants last season. He had 2.5 sacks, 13 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and nine QB hits.
The Giants selected Thibodeaux with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Thibodeaux enters this season with 23.5 career sacks, 86 solo tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 55 QB hits.
Thibodeaux had a strong start to his NFL career, racking up 15.5 sacks in his first two seasons. For whatever reason, the Oregon product hasn't been dominant the past two seasons.
There were reports during the 2026 draft that the New Orleans Saints were interested in Thibodeaux, but trade talks fell apart when the Giants refused to move the fifth-year veteran for less than a second-round pick.
An early Day 2 pick might be too tempting of a price for the Giants to pass up, especially considering New York is a bit short on 2027 draft capital.
If the 49ers or Patriots approach the Giants and offer a second-rounder in exchange for Thibodeaux's services, the brain trust of Harbaugh and Joe Schoen might have trouble saying no.
In Year 1 of the Harbaugh era, the Giants play the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions.
If the Giants trade Thibodeaux to the 49ers, Thibodeaux would have a revenge game right away this season.
