It's possible that Paulson Adebo has played his last game as a member of the New York Giants.
The New York Giants announced some crushing injury news on Friday, as head coach John Harbaugh revealed that cornerback Paulson Adebo has been placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury.
Harbaugh added that Adebo has been battling nagging issues, which could ultimately explain why he has been so disappointing since signing with the Giants in March 2025.
Adebo missed some time due to knee issues last year, and put forth a rather subpar showing in training camp over the summer. Perhaps injuries are the reason.
The 26-year-old is eligible to return in Week 6 against his former New Orleans Saints squad, but there is also the chance that we don't see him again this season period.
Knee injuries are generally always pretty serious, and a month-long timetable may ultimately prove too short for a full recover.
Based on the fact that this is clearly something that has plagued Adebo for quite some time now, it is within reason to not expect him back in 2026, which, in turn, could ultimately end his tenure in New York.
The Giants signed Adebo to a three-year, $54 million contract in free agency two offseasons ago. They were hoping that he would help stabilize their secondary considering how impressive he was during his time with the Saints.
That has not happened.
Adebo struggled mightily in Year 1, playing in 12 games and laboring when he was on the field. Maybe the knee injury that caused him to miss time last season was more serious than everyone initially thought.
Regardless, there is an out in Adebo's contract after this year. The Giants could cut him and save $14 million while also absorbing a $6.3 million dead cap hit, which is an option they will almost certainly explore if the current trend continues.
The former third-round pick has been one of the bigger free-agent disappointments in recent Big Blue history, and his decline could absolutely be injury-related.
As a whole, New York is facing much bigger problems than Adebo individually. Fellow cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Greg Newsome II are also nursing injuries, meaning that the Giants could be very shorthanded at the position against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night.
