With Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Arvell Reese on the Giants' roster, there has been talk for some time that Thibodeaux could be traded.
"It's always nice to have pass-rushing depth. At some point, however, the potential return in a trade will outweigh the value of having Thibodeaux as depth for the remainder of the season. If Thibodeaux can't carve out a more prominent role, the Giants can't expect to get a valuable compensatory pick by letting him walk in 2027 free agency," BR wrote.
Thibodeaux played in 10 games for the Giants last season. He had 2.5 sacks, 13 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and nine QB hits.
The Giants selected Thibodeaux with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Thibodeaux enters this season with 23.5 career sacks, 86 solo tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 55 QB hits.
Thibodeaux had a strong start to his NFL career, racking up 15.5 sacks in his first two seasons. For whatever reason, the Oregon product hasn't been dominant the past two seasons.
An early Day 2 pick might be too tempting a price for the Giants to pass up, especially considering New York is a bit short on 2027 draft capital.
If the Ravens or Patriots approach the Giants and offer a second-rounder in exchange for Thibodeaux's services, the brain trust of John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen might have trouble saying no.
In Year 1 of the Harbaugh era, the Giants play the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions.
The Giants beat the Cowboys at home in Week 1. Thibodeaux played just 47 percent of the defensive snaps, though he did log a quarterback hit.
It would certainly be quite the story if New York made the playoffs in Year 1 of the Harbaugh era. The Giants started the season with a win for just the second time in 10 years. They will look to go 2-0 by beating the Rams in Week 2.
To beat LA, Thibodeaux has to have a huge game.
