Dexter Lawrence requested a trade from the New York Giants.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Dexter Lawrence didn't request a trade from the New York Giants to get more money.

Lawrence straight up doesn't want to play for the Giants anymore.

"Dexter Lawrence's trade request was not just an attempt for more money from the team," Jones wrote. "Two sources tell me he does indeed want out of New York. But the Giants do not necessarily agree, and they don't have to make a deal by next week.

"Here's what I've gathered: The Giants do not seem too keen on paying Lawrence high-market price coming off his worst statistical season of his career, but they aren't going to give him away. If they can get a great offer for him — something that includes at least a first-round pick — I think they will deal him."

Last season, Lawrence had the worst year of his career. He put up only 0.5 sacks, 14 solo tackles, four tackles for loss and eight QB hits.

Lawrence will make $20 million next season. The three-time Pro Bowler has two years left on his current contract.

"We've had good conversations with his representatives throughout the last five or six days," Giants GM Joe Schoen said. "Coach, [senior vice president of football operations and strategy] Dawn [Aponte], myself, we've all been in communication, trying to find some resolution.

"I'll echo what coach said last week: We'd like for Dexter to be here, and at some point we'll come to a resolution here, whatever that may be. We'll see. But conversations have been really good, they've been productive and we'll see what happens here down the road."

The Giants have engaged with teams about a potential trade for Lawrence and discussions will continue ahead of next week's NFL draft.

Lawrence doesn't have a no-trade clause, so he can't control his future.

"I'm always going to pick up the phone," Schoen said. "So if a team calls -- maybe not to the effect that Coach [Harbaugh] said last week that everybody is tradable -- but, no, that is my job as the general manager. If teams call, you take into account it's a case-by-case basis and what the compensation may be. That's my job to take into consideration what that looks like, what the compensation looks like, who the player is, how that affects the roster and then try to make the best decision off of that."

In 109 games with the Giants, Lawrence has 30.5 sacks, 185 solo tackles, 40 tackles for loss and 103 QB hits. He's one of the top players in the league at his position.

The Giants went just 4-13 last season. John Harbaugh is the new head coach after a decorated run with the Baltimore Ravens.
