There is no way the New York Giants could actually make this trade happen, right?

The New York Giants are desperate for wide receiver help. We all know this. But are they really desperate enough to seek assistance from an NFC East rival?

Well, apparently so, as the Giants have called the Washington Commanders regarding a potential trade for Terry McLaurin, via Easton Butler of Packer Report.

McLaurin signed a three-year, $96 million contract extension with the Commanders during the offseason after a long standoff. He has been sidelined with a quad injury for the last three weeks but appears to be trending toward a return. During the three games McLaurin has played this season, he has logged 10 catches for 149 yards.

So, is there any chance New York could actually complete this deal with Washington?

To be quite blunt, no, there isn't. Not unless the Giants are willing to surrender a king's ransom of draft capital to the Commanders, who just made the NFC Championship Game last season and are clearly planning on retaining McLaurin for the long haul.

McLaurin would definitely comprise an outstanding fit in New York, especially once Malik Nabers returns from his torn ACL in 2026. He has posted five straight 1,000-yard campaigns, making a pair of Pro Bowl appearances while also earning a Second-Team All-Pro selection.

Last year, the 30-year-old hauled in 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Of course, McLaurin also has a big caveat: his age. While the Giants may be closer to contending than most initially anticipated, it seems hard to imagine New York being so willing to surrender such substantial assets for a receiver now on the wrong side of 30.

A decline could be coming for McLaurin, and apropos of that, this marks the first time McLaurin has missed any games since 2020. So perhaps the mileage is already catching up to him.

The Giants seem much more likely to pursue younger receivers like Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Jaylen Waddle, who Butler also mentioned in his report.

Is the McLaurin rumor accurate? Who knows, but it certainly seems fishy given all of the hurdles that would need to be cleared for a trade to actually be completed.
