The New York Giants (0-2) could fire head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen soon, according to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda.
If the Giants get blown out in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs, it could be the end of the Daboll era.
"Sources tell me that head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen are hanging on by a thread, which should come as no surprise," Pauline wrote. "The mood in the locker room has changed from trying to stay upbeat to the realization that the team must win, and win soon, or both could be out the door before the season ends"
The Giants hired Daboll in 2022. The 50-year-old enters Week 3 with a record of only 18-34-1 with New York.
The Washington Commanders beat the Giants in Week 1 and the Dallas Cowboys defeated New York in Week 2. It would shock many people if the Giants defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, who are 0-2 but have Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid.
"I think that any time a quarterback can use his legs, it benefits an offense because it turns into 11-on-11 football," Daboll said about facing Mahomes and the Chiefs. "Or in the passing game, it extends the time that a quarterback is holding onto the ball and it gives these skill players, who are very talented and athletic, the opportunity to create space for quarterbacks.
"Either it's with his arm when he's doing it or his legs, but he's got a very good ability to extend plays and a lot of those create explosives. It's always a challenge."
The Giants are averaging 21.5 points and giving up 30.5 points through two games. It could be a long day for Daboll and Co. against the Chiefs, who are looking to get on track offensively.
Many Giants fans want ownership to fire Daboll, so a blowout loss against the Chiefs may not be the worst thing to happen.
