The New York Giants could make a stunning decision in the NFL Draft.

The New York Giants now own a pair of top-10 picks in this year's NFL Draft, and while many are expecting them to pursue Ohio State stars Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs at each of those two spots, they could in a different direction entirely.

While fellow Buckeyes standout Carnell Tate seems like a rather obvious potential choice for the Giants, they might not even have Tate as their top wide receiver.

Todd McShay of The Ringer has revealed that New York could ultimately select Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson at No. 5.

"The Giants, that thing might be real," McShay said on The Rich Eisen Show. "... If that's real with Jordyn Tyson, you can't wait until (the 10th overall pick), because Tyson could go at 8 to the Saints, right?"

McShay then added that while he thought Styles would be the pick for the Giants at No. 5, Tyson has apparently gained considerable traction.

Tyson did not participate at the Scouting Combine due to a hamstring injury, but he just performed at his Pro Day, and apparently, he was very impressive.

The 21-year-old's stock has apparently skyrocketed as a result, and now, there appears to be a chance that Tyson — not Tate — is the first receiver off the board this Thursday.

This could end up being a massive mistake for New York.

While I would have no issue with the Giants taking a wide receiver with the fifth overall selection (I would certainly prefer that to Styles or Downs), Tate is definitely the safer pick.

Tyson has a very extensive injury history dating all the way back to his days at Colorado, where he tore his ACL, MCL and PCL in 2022. He then suffered a collarbone injury in late 2024, and this past season, he missed time as a result of the hamstring.

When healthy, Tyson has shown considerable potential. During the 12 games in which he was on the field in 2024, he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns. Then, this past year, he caught 61 passes for 711 yards and eight scores in nine contests.

Tate did miss three games due to a lower-body injury in 2025, but for the most part, he was a beacon of good health throughout his three-year Ohio State tenure.

His 4.54-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine raised some concerns, but Tate has never been known as a downfield burner. Instead, he is more of a possession receiver who makes things happen after the catch.

Tate is also slightly taller than Tyson at 6-foot-3 (Tyson stands 6-foot-2), so he fits the X-receiver role a bit better.

If the Giants are going to roll with a wide out at No. 5, Tate should be the pick.
