The running back situation with the New York Giants continues to get even more confusing.

And we’re only in Week 3.

Tyrone Tracy, who in his rookie season last year compiled 839 rushing yards and over 1,100 scrimmage yards, has seemingly been buried on the depth chart.

According to NFL Insider, Mike Garafolo, Cam Skattebo, who the Giants drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, will be receiving a whole lot more snaps.

"We thought Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo would be used in some short-yardages and special packages, but last week 35 snaps, 52% of the plays from the offense for the Giants," Garafolo said. "The most among any running backs. Look for him to get even more tonight against the Chiefs and moving forward. Skattebo has taken the lead in that backfield."

Skattebo made waves in the football world last season in his final season at Arizona State, where he had one of the most productive seasons in college football.

As he helped lead the Sun Devils to their first Big 12 championship and their first appearance to the College Football Playoffs, Skattebo rushed for a conference-leading 1,711 yards, and compiled over 2,300 scrimmage yards.

Along with all of that, he also finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.

So Skattebo is clearly qualified to take on a substantial role in an NFL offense. He ran for his first touchdown last week against the Cowboys.

But amidst all of this, what exactly happened to Tracy?

We covered earlier that Tracy could be a victim of some comments he made, calling out the play calling from Week 1’s loss against the Washington Commanders.

“I have to do what’s called, but I definitely said we needed to run the ball on the 1-yard line,” Tracy told reporters after a Thursday practice leading up to Week 2. “I feel like everyone felt the same — whether it’s offensive line, quarterback, running back. To do the play-action pass off the 1-yard line, you have to run the ball first.”

Tracy didn’t exactly get the run game going in the first game, only running 10 times for 24 yards, but one would have to wonder why his last season performance didn’t warrant a longer leash?

Was it because of what he said after that week?

Head coach Brian Daboll says no, but it would be a terrible look if he even admitted that he punished a player for calling out the play calling.

Daboll suggests that they’re opting to make Tracy a special teams guy, by working on kick returns. Tracy did fairly well against Dallas, amassing 132 yards on five returns, but that’s not what he was originally slotted to do.

The Giants are certainly a team to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. To an outsider, the team doesn’t seem to be on the same page, and there’s already reports coming out that Daboll may be on his last chance.

Could that mean tonight’s Sunday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs will be the ultimate decision maker?

    The clock’s ticking.
