The New York Giants are parting ways with Kevin Abrams, their Senior VP of Football Operations and Strategy, as part of organizational restructuring.
Abrams has been with the Giants since 1999.
The Giants won two Super Bowls in the Abrams era. Eli Manning beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2008 and 2011.
The Giants are in a new era, the John Harbaugh era. The former Baltimore Ravens head coach met with several Giants coaches on Wednesday and several were told they would not be returning next season, including most of the defensive staff and special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial.
The Giants haven't made the playoffs since the 2022 season. That was the first year of the Brian Daboll era.
Daboll was fired during the middle of this season.
It will be intriguing to see how Harbaugh does in his first season in New York in 2026. He has QB Jaxson Dart and WR Malik Nabers on offense and LB Brian Burns and DL Dexter Lawrence on defense.
The Giants went 4-13 this season. They finished with the worst record in the NFC East.
Harbaugh is considered one of the best coaches in NFL history. He went 180-113 in the regular season and 13-11 in the playoffs with the Ravens.
Baltimore, led by Joe Flacco and Ray Lewis, won Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31.
"For me, the No. 1 thing is we have to have guys that love football. You just have to," Harbaugh said. "It's football. What are we here for? What do we do? What is this building for? It's for football. This is a football team. We need guys that love everything about football. They love the games, they love the practices, they love the weightlifting, they love the meetings, they love the dining hall. They love every part of football. And if you love football, you're going to want to be here."
Only time will tell how successful QB Jaxson Dart is under Harbaugh, who now needs to hire the right OC for Dart.
An Ole Miss product, Dart finished his rookie season with 2,272 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 487 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
