A scout has revealed some unfortunate NFL Draft news for the New York Giants.
The New York Giants have some very clear needs heading into the 2026 NFL Draft, and one of them is at the wide receiver position.
Yes, the Giants added Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in free agency, but neither player is an absolute game-changer. Plus, neither player gives New York what it actually needs at the position, which is a true X-receiver.
So, could the Giants be mulling taking a receiver in the draft?
New York had been linked to Ohio State's Carnell Tate regularly before the Scouting Combine, but over the past several weeks, that chatter has faded, and it's looking more like the Giants will go defense at No. 5 (if they stay put).
When will Big Blue select a wide receiver? Well, if one NFL scout is correct, New York might not be interested in taking one next month.
“These Denzel Bostons and KC Concepcions and Antonio Williams’ of the world, they’re just guys,” the scout told Bob McGinn of Go Long. “Even Makai Lemon, he’s a little guy, a tough guy, but he’s not a No. 1 (receiver). I like Tate the best of all of them but he’s good, he’s not great. After Tate, in other years they would be second-, third- and fourth-rounders. There’s nothing out there.”

Most have generally agreed that this year's draft class is loaded with talent at wide receiver and that there should be plenty of intriguing prospects available in the latter rounds. But apparently, this scout disagrees.
Tate is widely viewed as the top wide receiver prospect, but his rather lackluster performance at the Scouting Combine has hurt his stock in the eyes of some.
Still, Tate is exactly the type of wide out the Giants need. He is 6-foot-3 with a terrific catch radius and also possesses the ability to snag grabs in traffic. He is a classic X-receiver, and he would serve as a terrific complement to Malik Nabers.
There are actually a bunch of big-bodied receivers slated to be available in this class, so New York might be able to pick one up on Day 3.
But if John Harbaugh and Giants brass are on the same page as this particular scout, they may choose to bypass the wide receiver position altogether.
