Are the New York Giants seriously not even considering Carnell Tate?

There are a handful of Ohio State Buckeyes players the New York Giants could consider in the first round of the NFL Draft, and lately, the two standouts most heavily linked to the Giants are linebacker Sonny Styles and safety Caleb Downs.

In fact, many mock drafts have New York selecting Styles at No. 5 and Downs at No. 10 for the opening round of the draft on Thursday night.

But what about wide receiver Carnell Tate?

A couple of months ago, Tate was the player most felt New York would nab in Round 1. And why not? The Giants are in serious need of receiver help, and Tate fits exactly what Big Blue needs: an X-receiver.

Plus, no one really knows what to expect from Malik Nabers in his return from a torn ACL. Yes, New York signed Calvin Austin III and Darnell Mooney in free agency, but it also lost Wan'Dale Robinson.

Essentially, the Giants still need another receiver, and Tate should be the best one available in this class.

But instead, we are hearing New York connected to Styles and Downs as well as Arizona State wide out Jordyn Tyson, who is suddenly rocketing up draft boards and has seen his odds of being drafted by the Giants increase dramatically.

Why Tyson over Tate? Tyson has an extensive injury history and didn't even participate at the Scouting Combine due to a hamstring issue that plagued him in 2025. He apparently had a fantastic workout at his Pro Day, although he still did not run the 40-yard dash.

Is this really all because Tate ran a 4.54 in Indianapolis? Or are there deeper issues going on here?

Call me crazy, but I find it hard to believe that New York has ruled out Tate entirely. This entire thing could be a smokescreen.

Back in January, Tate to the Giants was one of the most common links. So what caused the sudden turn away from the former Ohio State star? Or did it really happen at all?

We'll find out Thursday evening, but something tells me that New York may be more interested in Tate than it is letting on.

Or maybe it's just my wishful thinking because Tate is one of the primary players I've wanted at No. 5 (it's either him or LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane) all along.
