This New York Giants defender could change everything for the team in 2026.
The New York Giants certainly have a lot of question marks heading into the 2026 NFL campaign, but perhaps none are more pressing than the cornerback position.
The Giants currently have four cornerbacks worth a salt on their roster: Paulson Adebo, Greg Newsome II, Deonte Banks and rookie Colton Hood.
If anyone beyond that quartet receives significant playing time this fall, New York is going to be in serious trouble.
But let's focus on Adebo here.
The Giants signed Adebo to a three-year, $54 million contract in March 2025, and at the time, it looked like a fantastic pickup.
New York badly needed a cornerback, and Adebo had just posted four very impressive seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
Well, as with many things for the Giants over the last decade-plus, things did not go according to plan when it came to Adebo.

Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images.The former third-round pick missed five games due to injury and did not exactly perform up to par when he was on the field, and coupled with safety Jevon Holland also having an underwhelming season, it resulted in disaster for New York's secondary.
The Giants are facing very similar questions about their defensive backfield as we inch closer to Week 1 this year, and Adebo is at the center of it all.
But here's the rub: if Adebo can bounce back and play like the No. 1 corner New York expected (or just how he played in New Orleans), the Giants will have solved a critical issue in their secondary.
Last season, Cor'Dale Flott was New York's best corner, even though he was technically the No. 2 behind Adebo. He then bolted for the Tennessee Titans in free agency.
That puts all the more pressure on Adebo to perform in 2026, because once you get past Adebo, New York's cornerback room isn't pretty.
Sure, Hood could ultimately develop into a star, but he's a first-year player playing what is arguably the sport's most difficult position. Banks, up until this point, has been a first-round bust. Newsome is a former first-rounder himself who, while not terrible, has failed to live up to expectations.
Adebo must step up and be the player the Giants thought they were getting when they initially signed him to that multi-year deal.
If he can do that, it will change everything — or at least a whole lot — for Big Blue this season.
