The New York Giants didn't have their best effort this week against the Saints.
The New York Giants fell to the New Orleans Saints over the weekend, seeing their record drop to 3-2-1 on the season.
After a strong start early in the game, New York completely collapsed, letting the Saints score 34 unanswered points. The Giants made a solid comeback attempt, but in the end, it wasn't enough to get the win.
Quarterback Jameis Winston was benched during the game for J.J. McCarthy, who gave some new life to the Giants' offense. Going forward, nobody knows who will be the starter for this team, but McCarthy did make a good impression on the coaching staff.
Overall, it wasn't a good day all around for the Giants, who dropped what should have been a winnable game against a poor team. New York can learn from this, but the next few weeks are going to be very interesting for the Giants.
Following the tough loss to the Saints, the Giants did fall in the new NFL power rankings from Bleacher Report. New York came into the week ranked at the No. 19 team, and they are now seen as the No. 20 team.
While the drop isn't much, the loss to the Saints does hurt this group, and they are lucky that the rest of the NFC East is struggling. New York hasn't played well in the last two weeks, and this team will try to move forward after the tough game against New Orleans.
After McCarthy entered the game for the Giants, the entire offense changed, with the signal-caller pushing the ball down the field. In a limited amount of time, McCarthy threw for 243 yards with one touchdown and one interception, looking strong in his relief appeaance.
McCarthy almost sent the game to overtime, which would have been an epic comeback for the former first-round pick. But McCarthy's performance could see him being named the starter going forward, especially if head coach John Harbaugh believes that he can give them a better chance to win games.
The Giants will now be heading out on the road this coming week, taking on the Houston Texans, who have now come to life themselves. But no matter who is under center for New York in this game, the entire team will need to put in a better effort against Houston; otherwise, the strong start to the season for the Giants will have been for nothing.
