I know, I know. There really wasn't much of anything good we can take away from the New York Giants' Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. But there were actually a few bright spots on Sunday night, and they have been positives for the Giants all season.
Let's examine three silver linings (if you can call it that) from yet another Big Blue loss.
The Giants seem to have landed a steal with fourth-round draft pick Cam Skattebo.
Skattebo was about the only player who did anything offensively for New York on Sunday evening, carrying the ball 10 times for 60 yards and a touchdown while also logging six catches for 61 yards.
The Arizona State product runs hard and takes no prisoners when the ball is in his hands. He plays with a level of ferocity the Giants have desperately needed for years.
With Tyrone Tracy suffering a shoulder injury in the loss and struggling this season overall, we may see Skattebo take the reins as New York's featured back as soon as next week against the Los Angeles Chargers (another tough opponent; great).
Andrew Thomas returned at left tackle against the Chiefs, but played just 26 snaps before exiting. The Giants had Thomas on a snap count after making his first appearance since undergoing foot surgery last October, so Marcus Mbow stepped in.
Mark the second straight relatively impressive performance from Mbow, a fifth-round rookie out of Purdue. Was he great? No, but he was decent enough to potentially warrant some more playing time moving forward, even with Thomas healthy.
Remember: Mbow played some guard in college, so there may be a way to get him some action in the trenches even with Thomas on the field. It's definitely something New York needs to consider.
Brian Burns has always been good, but he has never been known as a Myles Garrett type of gamewrecker. He probably never will, but man; he has been fantastic thus far in 2025.
Burns tallied six tackles, a sack and a couple of passes defended versus Kansas City and now has four sacks overall on the season.
With all of the focus on rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter, it has been Burns who has stolen the show for the Giants' front seven. Now only if Carter can follow suit.
New York is lucky to have Burns — who is still just 27 years old — under contract through 2028. He is an absolute monster.
