The New York Giants fell to 0-3 with their brutal loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, which all but ended any chance the Giants have of making the playoffs.
Not that anyone expected New York to make a postseason push anyway, but you get the picture. It was basically a death knell for Big Blue's season.
The loss also pushed the Giants further toward selling at the November trade deadline, which will be here before you know it. And thanks to some recent injury news, they may now have a perfect trade partner in the San Francisco 49ers.
49ers defensive end Nick Bosa will miss the remainder of the campaign with a torn ACL, an absolutely devastating blow to a San Francisco defense that has been playing very well. The Niners will surely be seeking a replacement, and that is where the Giants come into play.
Kayvon Thibodeaux, anyone?
Thibodeaux has just one year remaining on his contract after this season, and with New York having already paid Brian Burns and having Abdul Carter in the pipeline, it seems very unlikely that the Giants will keep Thibodeaux long term.
The 49ers should be one of the first teams to contact New York about Thibodeaux given that they are trying to contend for a Super Bowl, and the loss of Bosa could thwart their chances.
At this stage, Thibodeaux might not even be a downgrade from Bosa, either. The 24-year-old has looked terrific thus far in 2025, having already totaled nine tackles, 1.5 sacks and five quarterback hits through three games. Remember: back in 2023, he racked up 50 tackles and 11.5 sacks.
The Giants may be able to pry a Day 2 pick away from San Francisco in a potential Thibodeaux deal, and assuming New York does not plan on re-signing the University of Oregon product, it might be wise to pull the trigger on a trade, especially if it can snatch a second-round draft choice.
Now, it is within reason that Big Blue may want to wait and see on Carter before making any rash decisions with Thibodeaux. Carter has only looked okay thus far, so in theory, the Giants could wait out the rest of this season to decide what to do with Thibodeaux. But based on everyone's valuation of Carter as a generational talent, it seems likely that Thibodeaux may be out the door.
If that ends up being the case, the Bay would represent a perfect landing spot for the Los Angeles native.
