So the NFL trade deadline has come and gone, and the New York Giants stood pat. Considering the Giants are just 2-7 with a general manager and a head coach who are almost certainly on their way out, this should not come as too much of a surprise.
And yet, Big Blue fans are beside themselves that New York did not make any moves.
My question is, what did you expect? Were you honestly expecting the Giants to go all out for a major addition with the playoffs clearly out of reach? And did you really think that Joe Schoen was going to sell off key pieces for draft capital when he probably won't even get a chance to use those draft picks?
Earlier in the season, I was actually a proponent of New York making a move to add a wide receiver following Malik Nabers' torn ACL. I figured that it would be imperative for the development of Jaxson Dart. But to be quite frank, Dart doesn't seem bothered by his lack of weapons.
Dart has looked very comfortable throwing to Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton and his tight ends. That continued this past Sunday even with running back Cam Skattebo now done for the year, as well.
We saw Jakobi Meyers and Rashid Shaheed — two names tied to the Giants — both get moved for a pair of Day 3 picks on Tuesday. Shaheed was a guy that I wanted New York to go and get, but the Seattle Seahawks gave up fourth and fifth-rounders for him, even though he is an impending free agent. That would have been a steep, risky price for the G-Men.
Remember: the Giants don't even have a third-round pick this year, as they traded it as part of the package they used to move up and select Dart at No. 25 last April. New York could not afford to surrender many more draft assets.

And consider this: the Giants will be getting both Nabers and Skattebo back next season. They will also be able to fill out some other needs via free agency and the draft. Relax. It's not all bad.
As far as selling players like Kayvon Thibodeaux and maybe even Dexter Lawrence? Well, for starters, Lawrence was never getting moved. He is under contract through 2027 and is one of the top defensive linemen in football. Trading him now would have been silly.
Thibodeaux was definitely a tradeable piece given the fact that New York already paid Brian Burns and will almost surely be compensating Abdul Carter within the next few years, as well, but as I said earlier: why would Schoen make an effort to trade him for a draft pick when he knows he is probably going to lose his job at the end of the season anyway?
It's entirely possible the Giants will fire Schoen and that the new general manager will come in and trade Thibodeaux during the offseason.
This was never going to be a busy trade deadline for the G-Men, so I'm not sure I understand all of the backlash from Giants fans. What did you think was going to happen? Did you think Jaylen Waddle was just going to fall into Schoen's lap?
I would have loved to acquire Waddle as much as the next guy, but clearly, the Miami Dolphins weren't moving him unless they received a king's ransom in return.
To be fair, this is largely just a symptom of being a fan in general. This isn't limited to the Giants fanbase. But I do find the outrage to be rather silly considering the very obvious circumstances.
