One major issue for the New York Giants ahead of the 2026 NFL offseason.

As the New York Giants slowly make their way through the 2025 NFL regular season, the upcoming offseason will be a crucial period for the franchise's future.

After an abysmal 2-8 start, general manager Joe Schoen and the rest of the front office decided to part ways with head coach Brian Daboll. During his tenure with the organization, Daboll had a 20-40-1 record, with a playoff appearance in 2022.

Unfortunately, Schoen and company did not feel as if the head coach would fit in the Giants’ long-term plan, resulting in New York’s replacement search being a top priority this offseason.

However, there is one major issue that must be addressed following the conclusion of the 2025 season in order to turn the Giants around next season.

Looking at the team’s salary cap in 2026, New York has roughly $17 million in cap space to use this offseason prior to any moves being made.

For a team that has most of its star players on a rookie contract, it’s clear that the front office needs to do some spring cleaning with its roster and have a better strategy during the upcoming free agency period.

To make matters worse, New York is set to lose two key contributors this offseason in wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson and Cordale Flott. Both players are projected to land contracts in the mid-teens, which means the Giants will likely not be able to re-sign the two.

Luckily for New York, there are a few ways that the franchise could create more cap space ahead of free agency.

Two names that Scheon could part ways with this offseason are running back Devin Singletary and offensive lineman James Hudson. Cutting both players would free up roughly $11 million, which brings their total cap space to $28 million.

In addition to Singletary and Hudson, linebacker Bobby Okereke is another name to keep an eye on before free agency. The 30-year-old veteran signed a massive deal with the organization back in 2023, but due to his age and his current contract, the Giants could save $9 million by cutting him before Jun 1st.

By cutting three players, New York would possess $37 million in cap space, giving them plenty of money to spend this offseason on free agents and the team’s 2026 rookie class.
