Giants Must Avoid One Player Like the Plague in NFL Draft cover image

The New York Giants must avoid selecting this one player in the NFL Draft.

Barring a surprising move in free agency or an out-of-nowhere trade, the New York Giants will almost certainly be selecting a cornerback in the NFL Draft.

This upcoming class is rather deep at the position, so the Giants should be able to find an answer in the first two or three rounds.

How much New York prioritizes drafting a cornerback will also depend on whether or not it re-signs Cor'Dale Flott in free agency. If Flott walks, you may see the Giants pull the trigger in Round 1.

But let's say New York waits until Day 2 to select a corner, which is entirely possible given how many good cornerbacks will be littering this draft class.

Are there any cornerbacks the Giants should avoid?

Well, I can think of one immediately: Ohio State Buckeyes corner Davison Igbinosun.

Igbinosun is expected to be a second or third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and definitely has some good qualities. He has terrific size at 6-foot-2, he is a decent playmaker on the ball and he plays with a very impressive motor.

However, there is one major drawback to Igbinosun's game that could make him a nightmare on the professional level: penalties.

Back in 2024, the Union, N.J. native was flagged 16 times, which was tops in the country. While he significantly reduced that number in 2025, it's still hard not to wonder whether or not his tendency to be grabby and his questionable coverage skills could cause those penalties to skyrocket once he makes it to the NFL.

The Giants are in desperate need of a strong cover corner. They thought they were getting that in big free-agent addition Paulson Adebo, but Adebo proved to be a major disappointment this year. If Flott bolts, the need for one increases exponentially.

But while Igbinosun is a tough, physical corner with great tackling skills, the potential of him racking up penalty yardage in the pros is too obvious to ignore.

There are far too many other good cornerbacks available for New York to zero in on Igbinosun at any point in the draft.

This is also why it's important for the Giants to trade down from their first-round draft pick; that way they can accumulate more draft capital and give themselves a better chance to find the players they are looking for.

The more picks New York has, the less of a chance it would have to settle for an Igbinosun.
