And after seeing Daniel Jones light up the Miami Dolphins during Week 1 as the starter for the Indianapolis Colts, while simultaneously seeing the dud the Giants put up against the Washington Commanders, you can understand why there’s some anger amongst Big Blue Nation.
When the Giants signed Russell Wilson to be their starting quarterback, it was only on a one year placeholder deal.
His career since leaving Seattle hasn’t been the same, though his previous stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers indicated that perhaps the old Russ was coming back.
Regardless, the Giants weren’t going to take any chances.
They selected quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, and fans are clamoring for the young gun to start already.
But let’s take a step back for a second and think about this.
Would it truly be beneficial for Dart’s career to be starting on a team that 1) already has locker room issues and 2) is dealing with an angry fanbase?
The other aspect is the Brian Daboll effect.
Do you really want to subject the potential future quarterback of your franchise to a coach who is known to butt heads with players – especially young quarterbacks?
All you need to look at is how Daboll treated Jones while he was the quarterback. Jones was often the scapegoat for a lot of issues the team had overall.

It’s not the only time that Daboll has chewed out Jones on the sidelines and it was caught on camera, and after Week 1, fans are wondering if Daboll was the problem all along.
Is this something that Giants fans want to subject their top prospect to?
Dart is a gunslinger when he has the football, and he also has exceptional athleticism that can make him a threat on the ground.
However, with being a gunslinger, it can be a good thing and a bad thing.
The problem regarding Dart was always that he was a little slower on the mental processing part of the game and reading defenses after the snap.
As we’ve seen with how Daboll has treated Jones when something didn’t go the way he liked it, he inevitably pointed the finger the other way.
From signing a lucrative contract extension to getting benched, and being named an emergency backup while with the Giants, the Jones experiment was over with, and he went on to different pastures.
When he signed with the Indianapolis Colts during the offseason, many believed he was going to serve as the backup to Anthony Richardson. However, Jones ended up winning the starting job, and instantly made head coach Shane Steichen look like a genius after the Colts 30-8 Week 1 win.
Putting Dart in the position where he may be fending for himself is not the best thing for his career, nor is it the best option for the future of the Giants.
Should Dart get named the starter while Daboll is still the coach, there may be some good vibes to start. But once the excitement wears off? It could pose serious problems.
If the Giants throw Dart into the fire now, don’t be surprised if history repeats itself.
