The New York Giants have been astronomically bad against the run this season, ranking 30th in yards allowed and last in yards per carry by opponents.
Dexter Lawrence has had a miserable year likely due to injury, but even if he were healthy, he would still need serious help on the interior.
The Giants selected Darius Alexander in the NFL Draft last spring, but he is really more of a pass-rushing defensive tackle, and there is no one else on the roster capable of providing any significant help to Lawrence inside.
That's why New York must target a run stuffer in the draft this coming April, and while Clemson's Peter Woods should be the Giants' first-round pick, I understand that Big Blue has so many other needs that it may not go defensive tackle right off the bat.
If the Giants go cornerback, wide receiver or offensive line in Round 1 and want to circle back around on Day 2 to nab an interior defender, Iowa State's Domonique Orange would represent a tremendous sleeper pick.
Orange is a 6-foot-4, 325-pound behemoth who specializes in stopping the run. He bench presses 450 pounds, squats 650 and also has a 34-inch vertical leap. So, yes: he is a freak of nature.

It's exactly what the Giants need, and his presence would help free up Lawrence and the edge rushers to get to the quarterback more effectively.
Orange is expected to be a Day 2 pick this spring. Of course, that could be problematic with New York not owning a third-round pick (if Orange falls that far), but if the Giants trade down in the first round, they could acquire a bunch of extra draft capital.
This is exactly why New York needs to stockpile more draft picks. Trading edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is another option here, as well.
There are plenty of interesting defensive tackles in this upcoming draft class, but Orange is absolutely one of the biggest sleepers.
The 21-year-old spent all four of his collegiate campaigns at Iowa State, establishing himself as one of the most dominant trench forces in the Big 12.
Don't be surprised to see the Giants take a serious look at Orange in the coming months, and if they aren't, they certainly should.
