But what about the man who started the first three games of the season, Russell Wilson?
Wilson arrived to the Giants on a one year contract this offseason, and with the exception of one game in Week 2, he’s been a total disappointment.
In three starts, he only threw for three touchdowns, all of them being in Week 2, and is throwing for a career low 59% completion.
After the Giants invested heavily in Wilson this season, giving him a contract worth up to $21 million, he’s now one of the more expensive backups in the NFL since the Giants started Dart for the first time.
So why not send him off elsewhere where he can play regular snaps for a little?
Have you watched the Cincinnati Bengals since Joe Burrow went down with an injury?
If you have, you may know that there’s no denying that the Bengals need someone other than Jake Browning to lead the charge. Especially with two high-paid receivers in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Wilson has built a career of having one of the more accurate deep balls in the NFL, and pairing him with one of the best receivers in the league in Chase would pose for a lethal connection.
With the Giants, Wilson had Malik Nabers, who outside of Week 2, was having trouble getting open after getting targeted 35 times.
In last night’s edition of Monday Night Football where the Bengals neglected to score a touchdown against the Denver Broncos in a 28-3 meltdown.
Chase was even seen on the sidelines arguing with his coach Zac Taylor.
Whatever is going on in Cincinnati with Burrow being out, it’s clearly not working, and even though we’re only heading into Week 5, it’s getting close to being a wasted season already.
The Bengals, who have already indicated that they’re trying to win, make the most sense for a player like Wilson. He’s not at the stage of his career where he’s looking to be a backup, no matter what he says in press conferences.
As he approaches turning 37 in November, Wilson has one more shot to be a guy that can lead a team into the playoffs, or at least help them out of this skid.
Cincinnati plays its next game against the 3-1 Detroit Lions, and if last night was any indication, the Bengals could use a strong armed quarterback – especially against an NFC contender.
