Aaron Rodgers Opens Up on Not Getting To Return to Lambeau Field

Former Green Bay Packers superstar and Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers is disappointed that Pittsburgh's preseason matchup against Green Bay was at Lambeau Field.

"100 percent. … Was really hoping this one was going to be in Green Bay," Rodgers said. 

Rodgers faced the Packers in a game held in Pittsburgh during the 2025 season.

In that matchup, Green Bay emerged victorious, winning 35-25. Jordan Love completed 29 of 37 passes for 360 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Rodgers also had a solid game, completing 24 of 36 passes for 219 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

The 42-year-old quarterback has not returned to Lambeau Field since Green Bay traded him following the 2022 season. With it being Rodgers' last season in the league, he will have to wait until his jersey retirement to return to Green Bay.

Rodgers had an incredible career with the Packers, winning four MVPs, a Super Bowl, and a Super Bowl MVP. Across 18 years with Green Bay, he has completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 59,055 yards, 475 touchdowns, and 105 interceptions.

Rodgers is one of the greatest players in franchise history and will finish out his career with the Steelers. He remains a quality quarterback despite his age, completing 65.7 percent of his passes for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in the 2025 season.

It's unknown if Rodgers will suit up in the preseason matchup against his former team, but Love will play for the Packers.

Love is coming off a career year for Green Bay, as he completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions while rushing for 199 yards on 47 carries. 

The Packers likely won't play Love for too long in their first preseason matchup, but he will look to get comfortable heading into the 2026 season.

Love and the offense will be adjusting to life without two of their top weapons from last season as they traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles and allowed Romeo Doubs to walk in free agency to the New England Patriots.

This will put more pressure on Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Jayden Reed in the receiver room. 

While the game will be in Pittsburgh, it will be Rodgers' last against the Packers unless they meet in the Super Bowl in February.
